Planetary Materials Science
The Planetary Materials Research Group, led by professors Bradley Jolliff and Alian Wang, brings together specialists in petrology, geochemistry, geophysics, geology, and astronomy. They use the crystal chemistry and trace-element geochemistry of silicate and accessory minerals in igneous systems to understand their petrogenesis, including igneous, metamorphic, and impact processes on terrestrial planets and their evolution through time. They also conduct fundamental planetary science research by looking at Igneous mineralogy, Hydrous sulfates, Hydrous chloride & oxychlorine salts (HyCOS), and Phyllosilicates.
