Have you seen the new holographic fan on the first floor of Rudolph Hall?
The new 3D monitor is located in an alcove across from the Grossman Mineral Museum.
Thanks to a generous donation from Jerrold and Marsha Grossman, the Department of Earth, Environmental, and Planetary Sciences (EEPS) has acquired this advanced technology. They hope it will showcase, among other features, students engaged in research.
We would love your assistance with this project. To facilitate high-quality 3D video creation, EEPS has acquired a small portable green screen (5' x 6.5') available for borrowing from the EEPS office.
Video Requirements and Instructions
-
Record Your Video:
- Use your phone to record a video with the green screen background.
- Ensure good lighting and a clear background for the best results.
- The object/erson being recorded should rotate or move to take advantage of the visual effects of the monitor.A static video of a stationary subject would not provide an engaging or dynamic experience.
-
Edit Your Video Using OBS Studio (or similar software):
- Download and install OBS Studio, free software available for Windows, Mac, and Linux.
- Load your video as a Source in OBS Studio.
- Go to "Filters" and select "Chroma Key."
- Set the "Key Color Type" to "Green."
- Refresh your video to confirm that the green screen has been successfully removed.
-
Save Your Edited Video:
- Click on "Start Recording" to save your edited video.
- Review the video within OBS Studio.
- Click "Stop Recording" to save the final video file to your computer.
We appreciate your help in creating these engaging 3D videos, which will enhance our department’s showcases and student research presentations. If you have any questions or need further assistance, please feel free to contact the EEPS office.
