Research Roundup: New awards received from March 01 - September 30, 2025


Bronwen Konecky, associate professor of Earth, environmental, and planetary sciences, was awarded a National Science Foundation CAREER Award of $822,639 for her project titled “Mechanisms of Holocene Rainfall Change in the Northern Tropical Americas”. Read more about this NSF CAREER award here.

Slava Solomatov, professor of Earth, environmental and planetary sciences and William B. McKinnon, Clark Way Harrison Distinguished Professor in Arts & Sciences, were awarded $540,890 by NASA for their project titled “Numerical Investigation of Convection planforms in the Nitrogen-Ice Layer in Sputnick Planitia, Pluto”

Scott VanBommel, research assistant professor of Earth, environmental, and planetary sciences, was awarded $20,000 by NASA/SBIR for the project titled “Remote X-ray Analyzer (ReXA)”

Kun Wang, associate professor of Earth, environmental, and planetary sciences, was awarded $392,813 by the University of Notre Dame/NASA for his project titled “Late-Stage Lunar Magma Ocean Heterogeneity: Investigating Variations in the Geochemical Signature of KREEP”
