The Fate of PGE During Mantle Melting
Opposing trends of the Platinum Group Element (PGE) pattern of primitive mantle melts and of peridotite-xenoliths are observed worldwide. The most likely processes of PGE fractionation during mantle melting will be discussed in due consideration of various physico-chemical interaction processes between coexisting silicate, solid sulfide and liquid sulfide phases. It is possible to link the distinct different PGE pattern of primitive mantle melts and of peridotite-xenoliths to ‘simple’ mantle melting processes.
