Safe Zones Training
Safe Zones training is designed to help you learn more about LGBTQ people and issues with the understanding that not all individuals use the same definitions for all the terminology and concepts offered. Just like members of every group, people who identify as LGBTQ have varying identities and ways of naming themselves. So training is a starting point, but not the last word.
Learning about LGBTQ issues is a lifelong process, and you should not expect to know everything you need or want from this training. Once you become familiar with the terminology and concepts outlined here you'll be able to expand your knowledge by seeking out additional resources, some of which will be provided at the training session.
After our training, you’ll be able to display your WUSTL Safe Zones placard outside your workspace, indicating that you can be an ally for those in the LGBTQ community at Washington University or for those who spend time in our buildings. Since people may come to you to chat or to get assistance, please become familiar with the resources so that you may best be able to assist students, staff, administrators and faculty members who seek you out as a Safe Zones resource.
