Washington University scientists have established a Saint Louis chapter of Taste of Science, a national nonprofit organization on a mission to make science accessible to everyone. Through chapters based in cities across the United States, Taste of Science coordinates themed events where scientists can engage with local audiences on a variety of STEM topics. The recently established Saint Louis chapter is looking for new members to fill several available positions in science communication, event planning, and networking ahead of the group’s upcoming spring events.
“We are looking for any person interested in science and science communication,” said Walid Ben Mansour, lead organizer of Taste of Science STL and a postdoctoral research associate in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences. “Taste of Science is an excellent opportunity for students at all levels to develop skills and network. We’re eager to work with student scientists, but we are also happy to have non-scientist members.”
In addition to organizing STEM-themed events with scientists – on topics ranging from astronomy to neuroscience to science policy – Taste of Science STL plans to share stories about science in local communities and develop partnerships with like-minded organizations to enhance science outreach across the region.
Taste of Science STL seeks new members to fill the following positions: event coordinator/speaker liaison, social media manager, web manager, publicity manager, and funding manager.
